Similarly, damaged lung tissue cannot regenerate. In rare cases, side effects such as fever, chills, or malaise may occur.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For substitution therapy, the following are available:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grifols.com\/documents\/260038\/27754341\/ft-prolastin-de-en-2\/5713f387-7228-43b2-af26-27d5d0b01ccf\"><strong>Prolastin\u00ae<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.respreeza.de\/web\/respreeza\"><strong>Respreeza\u00ae<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Two proven methods are available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"divider-wrap\" data-alignment=\"default\"><div style=\"height: 20px;\" class=\"divider\"><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t<p>Both products are derived from human plasma. With plasma products, we have a\u00a0<strong>unconditional\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Dependence on blood donors<\/strong>. Up to 900 plasma donations are needed to treat one Alpha-1 patient for a year. There is also currently a large shortage of plasma donations. <strong>Dependence on the USA<\/strong>, where the largest proportion of the blood plasma needed in Europe is donated. On this occasion, we have a<strong> <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023-04-19-Gemeinsamer-Brief-Versorgungslage-Blutplasma-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Letter to the then Minister of Health, Jens Spahn<\/a> <\/strong>written.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, there is no recombinant (human) alpha-1 antitrypsin on the market. Recombinant proteins for therapy are produced biotechnologically, meaning they are mostly created using genetically modified cell cultures. Many recombinant products have been used successfully for decades in the treatment of hemophilia and cancer. We, as a patient organization, hope that... <strong>urgent<\/strong> <strong>intensified research<\/strong> regarding the possibility of providing and potentially using recombinant alpha-1 antitrypsin as an alternative or additional option to plasma products.<\/p>\n<p>Such a product could be manufactured much more safely and purer, eliminating potential contamination by pathogens, since absolutely no human or animal-derived substances are used in the manufacturing process. It is also hoped that a recombinant alpha-1 antitrypsin based on modern biotechnology would possess higher activity and be produced in virtually unlimited quantities. This could reduce the shortage of this valuable product and lower costs for society.<\/p>\n<p>This urgently requires studies that can demonstrate this.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div> \n\n\t<div  class=\"vc_col-sm-2 wpb_column column_container vc_column_container col no-extra-padding inherit_tablet inherit_phone\"  data-padding-pos=\"all\"
