Study for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Patients \u2013 Who is interested in participating?<\/h2>\n

A study at the Sch\u00f6n Clinic in Berchtesgadener Land focuses on the Optimization of training therapy<\/strong> for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) patients.<\/p>\n

In a previous study, we demonstrated that AATD patients were able to improve their physical performance to a clinically relevant extent after intensive, multimodal, 3-week pulmonary rehabilitation. However, compared to COPD patients without AATD, AATD patients showed no improvement despite comparable training. significantly lower increase in performance<\/strong> This development was also reflected in the adaptation of the muscles: fatigue-resistant type I muscle fibers showed good adaptation to training in COPD, but not in AATD. The cause of this is still unclear.<\/strong> and will be examined in the current study. This is one of the first steps worldwide in basic research for exercise therapy in AATD.<\/p>\n

To investigate this question, which mechanism<\/strong> behind this limited adaptation of the muscle through training<\/strong> (in order to optimize AATD training based on these findings at a later date), the following assessments will be carried out as part of the study:<\/p>\n

To examine the adaptations in the muscle, in addition to a detailed Diagnostics of endurance performance<\/strong> one each at the beginning and end of rehabilitation small muscle sample from the thigh<\/strong> (M. vastus lateralis) is removed (skin incision approximately 1 cm long, tissue removal under local anesthesia).
