Following a successful first virtual members' meeting on April 23, we would first like to thank you for the trust you have placed in us. We will continue to work with great enthusiasm to improve the lives of people living with this condition.<\/p>\n

\u2026and as is so often the case, after the event came the next event, and we held our virtual Children's and Youth Day on May 1st. It's such an important topic, because every Alpha knows the low point after diagnosis, from which one first has to climb out. Good news: On April 29th, BioNTech received approval for its vaccine for all Ages 12 and up<\/a> An application has been submitted to the EMA (European Medicines Agency). Researchers see the vaccination of adolescents as an important step in combating the pandemic. This would mean that the first vaccinations could take place as early as June\/July.<\/a><\/p>\n

In our last newsletter, we reported on the use of alpha-1 antitrypsin in COVID-19 patients (University of Ulm). Below is another publication, this time from Saarland, led by Prof. Bals. The authors also conclude that AAT could be significant in the treatment of COVID-19 due to its antiviral and anti-inflammatory activity. Both intravenous and inhaled AAT were tested.<\/p>\n

Of course, we are also following the news that an asthma inhaler can help with Covid-19, which ELF summarizes the study well in a few understandable sentences.<\/a> and also mentions the link to Original study<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prof. Klaus Rabe, head of the Lung Clinic in Gro\u00dfhansdorf, views the study critically, saying on ZDFheute, among other things: "This article cries out for a larger study design and can really only be read as a starting point for further studies.".<\/p>\n
