As usual, the focus will be on liver involvement, but this time we would also like to offer various lung examinations.<\/p>\n<p>The patient day is being held in cooperation with Alpha1 Deutschland eV, who will also be represented on site.<\/p>\n<h2>Special liver and lung examinations at a glance:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Who:<\/strong> Patients with AAT deficiency (In the course of the pandemic, especially those with severe AAT deficiency (genotype Pi*ZZ\/Pi*SZ) and\/or with pre-existing liver abnormalities (elevated liver enzymes, liver fibrosis, etc.).<\/p>\n<p><strong>When:<\/strong> Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 9 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where:<\/strong> University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Pauwelsstr. 30, 52074 Aachen<\/p>\n<p>Your AAT deficiency not only affects the lungs, but can also impair the liver. This can affect people <strong>Any AAT genotype and any age may be affected<\/strong>. Overall, liver involvement is the <strong>Second most common cause of reduced quality of life and life expectancy. <\/strong>Since there is no established preventative care or early detection method, liver damage is unfortunately usually only diagnosed late, if at all. This is exacerbated by the fact that <strong>Affected patients may have no or only nonspecific symptoms, and routine diagnostic tests (e.g., liver function tests) often show no abnormalities. <\/strong>It is therefore of great importance to detect liver involvement early in order to avoid complications and long-term consequences such as liver cirrhosis.<strong>. Furthermore, the first treatment options are available within the framework of clinical trials.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have made it our mission to... <strong>to systematically investigate neglected liver involvement in AAT deficiency<\/strong>, ...but not forgetting the lungs. Our multicenter study group, with its study center in Aachen, uses various examination methods, such as a special type of ultrasound, lung function tests, and blood draws. All study participants receive a comprehensive analysis of their individual risk and corresponding recommendations. Furthermore, we evaluate how you might benefit from new drug trials.
