Each municipality or city enacts its own bylaws.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Basic information: What are tourism taxes?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Germany, many <strong>Cities, towns and spas have local taxes<\/strong>, which concern tourist activities and stays. The most common forms are:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Tourist tax \/ visitor&#039;s tax \/ tourism levy (daily rate)<\/strong> \u2013 usually per person\/day to finance tourist infrastructure and services.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accommodation tax \/ lodging tax \/ city tax \/ cultural promotion tax<\/strong> \u2013 often as <strong>Percentage of the accommodation price<\/strong>, e.g. in large cities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tourism tax<\/strong> \u2013 is not necessarily collected directly from the guest, but usually from businesses that profit from tourism (e.g. holiday apartments).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Severely disabled <\/strong><strong>\u2013<\/strong><strong> General situation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Tourist tax \/ visitor&#039;s tax (per day\/person)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many municipalities, the statutes stipulate that <strong>Severely disabled persons may be fully or partially exempt or have to pay a reduced rate.<\/strong>. The specific details depend on the municipality:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Exemption or reduction for certain disability symbols<br \/>\nOften, the following applies: People with a degree of disability (GdB) of 80 or above, or with the markers &quot;B&quot; (accompaniment), &quot;aG&quot; (exceptional walking disability), &quot;Bl&quot; (blindness), &quot;H&quot; (helpless) are partially exempt or pay less.<\/li>\n<li>Accompanying persons are usually also exempt if the disability ID card bears the symbol &quot;B&quot;.<\/li>\n<li>In some towns, for example, the tourist tax is completely waived for the person affected and their accompanying person if their disability rating is 100.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>But:<\/strong> There are also places (e.g. on R\u00fcgen) that have changed their statutes so that even people with disabilities have to pay the normal tourist tax.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Accommodation tax \/ lodging tax (city tax)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This fee is levied by some cities (e.g. Hamburg, Berlin, M\u00fcnster, Magdeburg, Mannheim) as a percentage of the accommodation price.<br \/>\nA nationwide exemption for severely disabled persons is much less frequently explicitly provided for, because this tax often does not take into account &quot;tourist stays&quot; but overnight stays in general \u2013 thus also including business travelers.<br \/>\nHowever, in some smaller municipalities there are exceptions for severely disabled people with certain distinguishing marks and their accompanying persons \u2013 if this is regulated in the statutes (e.g. severely disabled \u2265 80 % and accompanying person).<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Tourism tax for businesses<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This levy is primarily aimed at businesses that profit from tourism and is a business tax.
