„"It is important to know that alpha-1 antitrypsin is produced in increased amounts during infections. If the AAT level is measured during an infection, the value may therefore be falsely within the normal range, and a potentially existing AAT deficiency may be overlooked. Therefore, an inflammatory marker, such as C-reactive protein (CRP), is usually measured at the same time. If the CRP level is normal, an infection can be ruled out with a high degree of probability, and the AAT level is then meaningful."²
