We made it!

The first meeting of our self-help group took place on July 18, 2026.

We met at the Heppenheim Monastery, in the premises of Caritas.

We were very pleased that so many of us turned up – despite the date being in the middle of the holiday season.

The focus of our meeting was initially on getting to know each other, personal exchange, and sharing our own experiences on various topics.

First we us and our motivation presented for the self-help group.

Afterwards, each person shared a little about themselves, their medical history, and their experiences. It was also touching and enriching to hear the perspectives and experiences of the family members. Overall, this session was very interesting and very emotional.

Afterwards, there was a relaxed coffee break where small groups formed to exchange ideas on various topics.

Another important question for us was: "What do we want as a group?"„
Everyone was able to record their wishes, ideas, and suggestions in writing. Lively discussions ensued, covering topics such as how often our meetings should take place, what joint activities would be possible, and what topics might be interesting for inviting speakers.

And of course, this too was essential; simply being human – laughing, talking, listening and feeling understood.
To finish off the evening, we all went to a beer garden together. With good weather, delicious food, good conversation, and lots of laughter, we enjoyed a relaxing end to the day.

For us as group leaders, it was a great meeting with lively exchange, many suggestions, and we also laughed a lot.

Thank you all for a wonderful day!
