Filming like the pros: Media workshop for Alpha1 youth

In Göttingen, we young people were able to participate in a media workshop where our project was to film and produce a YouTube video. We had two days for this project, and at our very first meeting, we started brainstorming the video's plot. Before that, however, we got to know each other as a group and played the game "Never Have I Ever." In this game, someone stands in the middle and begins a sentence with the words "Never Have I Ever," then thinks of something they've never done. Those who had already done it had to get up and find a new seat. The topic was YouTube, video, and social media. After the game, everyone had a rough idea of who in the room was active on social media platforms and which YouTubers they followed.
Our instructor, Jana, followed up immediately by showing us various YouTube videos. We were instructed to pay attention to which camera angles and perspectives resonated best with viewers. After a brief discussion, each role was assigned: some who wanted to be in front of the camera, and others who wanted to focus on editing and filming. Following another discussion, our concept for the video was finalized: a series of interviews covering various topics relevant to Alphas' daily lives. Each group of three had the opportunity to speak with one or two interviewees. Beforehand, everyone prepared relevant questions to ask during the interviews. A moderator guided the video from one interview to the next, occasionally pausing for short still images that the groups had also prepared.
All in all, I think I can speak for everyone involved when I say that the project was a lot of fun and there was a lot of laughter. Whether in the preparation, the interviews themselves, or within the groups, everyone was highly committed to creating their own video in the end.
