Alpha-1 Global – a structure that brings together patients and researchers worldwide

Alpha-1 Global is a worldwide network of Alpha-1 patient advocates, physicians, and researchers. These partners work together to raise awareness of the condition, promote diagnosis, and ensure optimal access to treatment for all individuals with Alpha-1 worldwide. The network currently comprises 40 countries across North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the South Pacific. Alpha-1 Global's objectives include collaboration, information dissemination, education, and further network expansion.

Cooperation

The global Alpha-1 Congress takes place every two years. Alpha-1 Global helps to establish new patient associations and also aims to promote science and research worldwide. You can find congress dates in the events calendar.

ALPHA-1 GLOBAL INITIATIVE

During the fourth international Alpha-1 Patient Congress in Barcelona, Spain, in April 2013, Alpha-1 leaders from 20 countries met to share their experiences. The constructive discussions about needs, wishes, successes, and failures reinforced the unanimous decision to remain connected as a collaborative, global patient community.

The Alpha-1 Foundation offered to take the lead and provide resources to create a communication platform for the global Alpha-1 community, with the goal of connecting Alpha-1 organizations and individuals to exchange ideas, strategies, and tools around three themes: awareness, detection, and access to healthcare. The new program was initially called the Alpha-1 Global Initiative, but the name was changed to Alpha-1 Global on June 1, 2014.
