On February 16, 2019, those affected, some with their relatives, from all over Baden-Württemberg met in Bietigheim-Bissingen for the first "real" meeting.
The 23 participants quickly engaged in lively conversation in a relaxed coffeehouse atmosphere. There were also some pleasant surprises, as several "veterans" (forgive the expression!) of self-help group work met again after many years, since unfortunately no meetings had taken place in Baden-Württemberg in recent years.

It was wonderful for the group that Walter Mannherz, co-founder of Alpha1 Germany, Alpha1 Baden-Württemberg, and even Alpha1 Europe, was able to attend. He was able to share his wealth of experience. The fact that the oldest PIZZ participant, at 80 years old, appeared vibrant and youthful also gives all the "youngsters" hope for a long and fulfilling future with Alpha-1.

After a pleasant round of introductions, the group members discussed potential activities, goals, and wishes. Since there is great interest in joint activities and, based on general feedback, people felt a very dynamic and friendly atmosphere within the group, we are all looking forward to future meetings. A trip to the saltworks/graduation tower in Bad Rappenau is planned, including breathing exercises, as well as meetings with information on everyday topics such as insurance law, advance healthcare directives, disability ID cards, etc. For the autumn/winter season, a candle-making workshop in smaller groups is planned, if there is interest, so that the dark season can be illuminated soot-free with soy candles instead of paraffin candles. The exchange of experiences among the group will always remain the focus – no one understands the small and large problems of Alpha-1 better than other affected individuals.

Further important regional and national dates were announced, the question was raised as to where our permanent meeting place should be, and the next date for our activities was set for July 6, 2019 (excursion). I will report back!
