Away January 2023 The certificate of incapacity for work (AU) is sent electronically (e) to the employer. Employers receive the data from the health insurance funds. eAU procedure. After the medical practices have electronically transmitted the certificate to the health insurance companies on the day of the doctor's visit, the latter make the data available to the employer electronically.

Previously, the "yellow certificate" issued by the doctor had to be submitted by the 4th day of incapacity for work; before October 1, 2021, it even had to be sent to the health insurance company by the employee themselves, after which the medical practices took over this task.

However, there are also some things to consider here:

  • So, initially, this regulation only applies to those with statutory health insurance!
  • Private doctors, doctors abroad, rehabilitation, physiotherapy and psychotherapy facilities are not yet integrated into the eAU procedure.
  • The (paper) slip of paper for your own records should definitely be kept; it serves as proof in case something goes wrong during the transfer.

By the way: If you're sick, you don't necessarily have to stay in bed; it depends on the illness. Anything that promotes health is allowed. This can include shopping as well as going for a walk.

Erstehilfe-Koffer

Good to know:

The transition period for the requirement to carry two masks in the car's first-aid kit ends at the end of January (January 31, 2023). A fine of €5 will be charged if these two masks (medical masks are also acceptable) are missing from the first-aid kit.

We also have some new things to report here in the Alpha1 world:

We have been supported for some time now Dr.-Ing. Heinz Stutzenberger the additional work resulting from the project, a European Alpha1 Alliance to establish the company. But he has also contributed in many other areas with great expertise, and so we were able to bring him on board – initially on an interim basis. Some of you may already know him from recent newsletters and other articles he has written for us. Thank you and welcome Heinz!

New YouTube video: Dipl.-Biol. Martina Veith on „Alpha-1 diagnostics using PCR/luminescence-based technology“

The year is drawing to a close; we hope you can enjoy a healthy and peaceful end to it. If you have the time, why not check out our new YouTube video from the Dipl.-Biol. Martina Veith from the Alpha-1 test center in Marburg: „Alpha-1 diagnostics using PCR/luminescence-based technology“.

This video isn't something you can just watch casually if you want to understand it. We all know that testing for Alpha-1 is important; only with a diagnosis can the treatment be the right one! But just any diagnosis isn't enough; we patients need the most accurate and, above all, reliable diagnosis possible. Ms. Veith wonderfully explains what happens to our sample after it's taken at the doctor's office.

New podcast: Gastro chat on the topic of "A1 antitrypsin deficiency: A rare disease that is now finally treatable?"„

The end of the year often means a full stomach, too much sitting, too much drinking. So get outside, we prescribe exercise.

Why not use the time of a long walk, during which you might work off any Christmas kilos, to simply listen to the new podcast from our advisory board member Prof. Pavel Strnad?.

The German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGVS) makes worthwhile podcasts that are under Gastro Chat will be released on the usual channels (Spotify, Apple Podcast, Amazon Music).

In episode 12, Prof. Dr. Heiner Wedemeyer chats with Prof. Dr. Pavel Strnad about

A1 antitrypsin deficiency: A rare disease that is now finally treatable?

…and about a revolutionary new approach in the treatment of alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency: „In an open-label phase 2 study, Strnad and his team investigated the safety and efficacy of fazirsiran, an RNA interference therapy, in AAT patients with liver involvement. Strnad explains what this promising therapeutic approach could mean for patients.“

Study participation: Two surveys on new studies related to alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency

It's raining and you'd rather stay home? We have a solution for that too:

In recent weeks, we have forwarded two surveys to you, asking you to complete them. If you haven't already done so, we would be very grateful if you could.

Firstly, it is the Follow-up study with the Questionnaire on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the daily lives of AATM patients. You can find further information and a link to the publication on our homepage. first survey.

And secondly, it's about so-called "patient-related outcome measurements". We invite you to participation I am participating in this study. The goal is to develop a quality-of-life questionnaire specifically tailored to individuals with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). Such a questionnaire does not yet exist and would represent a significant advancement for clinical care as well as for future studies.

Please only participate if you haven't already.

New SWR program: „"The Nicotine Trap – The Tobacco Industry's Dangerous Campaign" with Dr. Alexander Rupp

Even though it's stopped raining, it's still quite cold outside. Cold air contains less oxygen, so maybe a little TV?

We have something for you here too: our advisory board member Dr. Alexander Rupp appeared on television and can now be found in the media library. The program on SWR is titled: "The Nicotine Trap – The Tobacco Industry's Dangerous Campaign." It deals with Marlboro Men, scientific findings on heated tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and their liquids.

Most of us experience firsthand what smoking has done to us, but our teenagers and young adults only feel the effects later, and that often means too late.

A great educational effort by Dr. Rupp.

Practical things for our everyday life

As usual in our newsletters, we also have one for the end of the year. Everyday tip discovered for you:

On the following website you can check for drug interactions. Of course. It does not replace a consultation with a doctor and/or pharmacist., However, it's well-suited for reference, especially when it comes to rarely taken medications where you've long forgotten the pharmacist's advice. Give it a try.
