Since I was a member of the club from the beginning, Marion asked me to tell you something about the 'old stories'.
I actually still had a folder in the basement that contained, in particular, many notes from the German Emphysema Group (DEG). Within the DEG, an Alpha1 self-help group formed, and gradually, with support from the Alpha1 meetings in Essen, it became an independent Alpha1 association in 2001. At that time, I was the group leader in Hamburg.
And now we're already looking back on 20 years of Alpha1 Germany – incredible!
In the folder, I also found a note that my doctor gave me back in 1999 when I was diagnosed – at least some kind of explanation was given. I've copied the page for you (see right). It's interesting how the illness was explained to me back then.
