Experiences with the POWERbreathe Plus breathing trainer

Through the presentation by Dr. Göhl at our last information day and information provided at the joint meeting of the self-help groups Hamburg and Baltic Sea in Lübeck, I became aware of the breathing training device Powerbreathe Plus.

This device uses resistance training technology to strengthen the respiratory muscles and reduce shortness of breath. The resistance forces the respiratory muscles to work harder during inhalation, making them stronger and more enduring.

The breathing trainer is available in 3 versions:

  • Wellness with gentle resistance; e.g., for people with pulmonary emphysema
  • Medium resistance fitness; for active athletes
  • High-resistance sports; for competitive athletes

So, for me, only the Wellness version was an option. The training involves 30 breaths during inhalation – twice a day, regularly. It's very easy to use. Nevertheless, I was initially tempted to stop using the device because I found inhaling incredibly difficult. With some effort, however, I managed it. I've since been able to increase the intensity by three levels on the easily adjustable setting. I've noticed that I can breathe more deeply and fully, so my overall impression is positive.
