On June 18, 2026, Marion and I visited the Inclusive Rehabilitation and Mobility Fair for All (IRMA) in Hamburg.
Our impressions of the trade fair
IRMA is one of the largest trade fairs for rehabilitation, mobility, and daily living aids in Northern Germany. It is aimed at people with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and care needs, as well as their families and professionals from therapy, care, and the medical supply industry. Around 168 exhibitors from nine countries presented innovative products and services related to mobility, rehabilitation, care, therapy, and accessible living. Many aids could be tested on-site, and numerous self-help organizations were also represented.
We saw many new assistive devices there, such as battery-powered rollators that are easy to use and allow for a slow walking pace. There were also lightweight wheelchairs with batteries that are easy to transport by plane or car trunk. We had some great conversations and made some valuable contacts.
We're planning to schedule an appointment in Hamburg with a medical supply store where the devices and their functions will be presented and explained to our self-help group so that we're well-informed should we ever need something. The next IRMA events are in Karlsruhe in May 2027, in Bremen in June 2027, or in Hamburg from June 15th to 17th, 2028.
