On February 25, 2017, the fourth Rare Disease Day took place at the Ballenstädt Lung Clinic, and the seventh at the Dessau Municipal Hospital. Andrea Kleinert arrived at the Dessau Municipal Hospital at 8:45 a.m., where the event began at 9:30 a.m. with a panel discussion. After the discussion, Andrea staffed the small booth of Alpha1 Germany e.V. and our support group for Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Many interested people inquired with Andrea about our disease and the support group.
At 9:00 a.m., Udo Held arrived at the Ballenstädt Lung Clinic and set up the booth for Alpha1 Germany and the self-help group for Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. After the speakers had given their presentations, there was a great deal of interest. Visitors took away a good amount of informational material and invitations to the self-help meeting. An Alpha1 children's book was also available for a small donation. Since the event at the Ballenstädt Lung Clinic ended at 12:00 p.m., Udo then drove to the Dessau Municipal Hospital to support Andrea.
Udo arrived in Dessau around 1:00 PM. We were then able to eagerly anticipate the tour led by Ms. Petra Grimm-Benne, Minister for Labor and Social Affairs. At 3:00 PM, the red balloons of the Alliance for Chronic Rare Diseases (ACHSE) e.V. were released, marking the end of the event. Thus, on February 25, 2017, we were able to represent our self-help groups for Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, as well as Alpha1 Germany e.V., at both clinics. A successful day concluded with coffee and cake at Andrea Kleinert's.
