This was a meeting of our self-help group unlike any we had ever had before.
March 17, 2018, began chaotically due to the onset of winter in Saxony. Trains were delayed or canceled altogether. Roads were snow-covered, and snowdrifts created barriers for drivers and pedestrians. We knew that some members would be unable to attend due to the winter weather. Nevertheless, many of our members managed to participate in the meeting at the "Churfürstliche Waldschänke Moritzburg" (Electoral Forest Inn Moritzburg).
Marion Wilkens, 1st Chairwoman of Alpha1 Germany eV, was in Dresden at the 59th DGP (German Pulmonologists Congress) and was able to join us for a few hours.
It was clear that we would hold our 10th meeting near Dresden. However, a misunderstanding led to us listing the "Mistschänke Moritzburg" on our invitation. While also a nice restaurant, it wasn't the one where we had actually booked our table. Two weeks before the meeting, we announced the change on Facebook and via email.
In total, there were 14 of us members and guests. We enjoyed good food, coffee, and cake while having conversations. Marion also gave a report on the congress. What we didn't learn today, we'll hear on April 21, 2018, at the big Alpha1 information day in Göttingen.
We were able to gain new members, bringing our self-help group to 27 members.
The next meeting will take place on June 9th, 2018 in the spa park in Bad Dürrenberg. Among other things, the largest saltworks in Central Germany are located there. It's a beautiful park with an aviary, a tropical greenhouse, and a butterfly house.
The Saale river runs right next door; here you can explore the Saale-Unstrut wine region by passenger ship, where you can certainly get a good glass of wine in the evening.
