Some things get easier with age – others become noticeably harder.
Dear readers, dear companions, dear Alphas,
Unfortunately, working for patients increasingly falls into the second category. Acquiring funds is becoming more challenging, bureaucratic hurdles are growing, and yet: our work is making a difference.
What began quietly a few years ago is now gaining recognition. We are becoming more visible – both nationally and internationally. In research, we are now an integral part of interdisciplinary teams, and pharmaceutical companies value us as a competent partner, sometimes even as a critical or sparring partner. These developments fill us with gratitude and pride, as they confirm the value of our work.
Our growth isn't fueled by volume, but by trust. Trust built through our presence on social media, but above all through a website that stands for well-founded, understandable, and independent content. This is precisely what makes our work valuable and complex at the same time.
Managing all of this on a voluntary basis becomes more challenging every year. That's why we're increasingly asking ourselves: What does our future look like? What do we need to do today to ensure we can still reliably provide care for patients in ten years' time? Sustainably. Independently of specific individuals. Financially viable. A balancing act that's anything but easy. Perhaps you could be a crucial component of this overall concept. A conversation isn't a commitment – but it could be a first step towards making a difference together.
I look forward to exchanging ideas with you, as well as to every meeting and phone call I have, because people are at the heart of everything we do. Be inspired by the reports from our active members and be drawn into the world of research. Enjoy reading in this new format.
Keep your focus on what's most important: Take care of yourself! Take time to reflect on what you've already accomplished (and not dwell on what's difficult). You're amazing – never forget that!
